Major Menopause Symptoms and How You Can Identify Them

Every woman in the world is going to go through menopause eventually. This is just a part of being female. Lots of women actively put it off but the simple fact is, eventually, the female body stops having its monthly cycle. The onset of menopause can be quite traumatic for some women, especially if they do not know what kind of menopause symptoms to look for. There are all sorts of stories about what women go through when they enter “the change” but what real symptoms should women be looking for? This article will tell you!

Perhaps one of the most “popular” and well recognized menopause symptoms is the “hot flash.” A hot flash is when a woman suddenly feels too hot. It will make your face flush and your body sweat. It will feel almost like somebody turned up the temperature inside of your body–but only for a little bit. Some women report that it is more intense than the feeling you get when you go from a room that is too cold to a room that is too hot. Hot flashes can occur at any time of the day or night. Night time hot flashes are usually called “night sweats.” Changes in hair growth are probably the most embarrassing of all of the menopausal symptoms. Many women report hair loss on their heads, in their pubic area and on other areas of the body where hair growth is normal for women (arms, legs). While this hair loss is happening they begin to grow hair in places that aren’t normal, like on their faces and chests. Each woman has different kinds of hair growth. If you don’t usually grow hair on your face or chest and you start to notice some appearing (while simultaneously losing hair from places where it should grow), call your doctor. It is possible that you could be experiencing menopause.

The most obvious symptom of menopause is the deregulation of your monthly menstrual cycle. You could be going through menopause if your period suddenly stops coming or changes in frequency or duration or even “strength”. Remember, it is not always missing your period that signals the onset of menopause. There are some women who get heavier than usual periods right before menopause starts. Any change in the monthly cycle should be reported to a doctor, especially if you are getting to the age where menopause usually occurs.

Some people compare menopause to puberty. The body is experiencing a huge amount of changes that are totally out of the woman’s control. For most women menopause is the worst of the two simply because it has more symptoms and they are more severe.

It is good to learn what you can about menopause symptoms because doing so will help you deal with all of your changes. If you are not female, learning these symptoms can help you be more sympathetic to the women in your life who do have to go through it.
