Successful Shopping for Big and Tall Men’s Clothes

March 14, 2011 by moi

There was once a stigma attached to buying clothes for big and tall men. A lot of men tended to avoid these stores because there was a feeling they were viewed in a negative light.

However, now that stigma does not exist for the big and tall man that it once did. Perhaps the main reason is that clothing sizes are different now, and what used to be considered a “normal” size a long time ago is now a big and tall size. So the effect is that regular department stores and retailers are now stocking these sizes, and also many designers are doing work in these size categories, as well. We’ll move on to some helpful dressing hints so you’re always looking great. By the way, I dropped just over 3 inches off of my waist in the last 30 days using the AthLEANX program. Check it out, it is excellent.

It’s always best to actually try on the clothes before buying and leaving. The reason is simple, standard and uniform sizes really don’t exist, anymore. There can be wild variations with some being huge on you, while others being grossly too small. You can easily avoid having to go back to the store for a refund or to find something that actually fits. Simply trying them on first can possibly save you some headaches, later. Has it ever happened to you when you see something that looks great, the label says it’s the right size, but when you got home it doesn’t fit or look good on you? Choose clothing that is lower waisted. Pants cut with a high waist line aren’t suitable for most body types, which could be a reason why they’re not available much these days. Try to choose pants that sit a bit lower down on the hips. These can help lengthen the look of your torso. See if you can find pants that sit just below your waist line. If you have a bigger middle area, you will want to avoid very low rise pants because these will just give you the look of having a “muffin top” which is probably something that you want to avoid.

When you enter a store, be sure to first take a look at what’s on sale in the sales racks. It’s quite common for sizes that don’t quickly sell to be placed on the sales racks. Stores do not have a problem selling the more common sizes, but they do have problems with the uncommon sizes – so that’s why you’ll find them on the sales racks, and often! So you see, sometimes having a size that is not the norm can sometimes save you money.

It’s usually much easier to find the clothes you want in the sizes that fit you best when you know where to look. Don’t be put off by the ‘big and tall’ label when it comes to buying clothing you want to wear. The fact is that more and more designers are designing beautiful clothing for this size range every day. The fashion industry stigma of a decade ago has changed, so that what used to be ‘big and tall’ is now a part of the accepted sizing range. People’s concept of fashion is constantly changing. The ‘big and tall’ label may indeed fade into memory as more people embrace the idea of buying clothing that fits them perfectly and looks great as well.
