HPV / genital warts transmission?
April 17, 2009 by admin
Hello,
Just wondering how contagious Genital Warts are if your not displaying any symptoms. (ie. no warts preset.). I realize there is a possibility of microscopic warts but as a male there isn't even a test to find that out because your diagnosed on visual inspection only.
Is it safe to carry on with sexual relationships with no visible symptoms ? (ie. most likely will not pass virus.)
Thanks !
Concerned
Most strains of HPV have no outward symptoms. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. So yes, you could still be contagious.
HPV is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, not through bodily fluids as someone else suggested.
The good news is that many strains of HPV will eventually be eliminated over time. It is not always something you will have forever.
HPV is the most common STD. Three out of every four people have been or will be infected with HPV is their lifetime. The idea that someone with HPV is "dirty" is ridiculous and, quite frankly, a bit ignorant. However, this doesn't relieve you of your responsibility to tell a prospective partner of your condition. To withhold such information is a bit unfair, even with the statistics above.
The websites are two of the most reliable I've found. I'm sure there are others, such as WebMD, that will also have useful information. It is a good idea to do some research to help shed some light on HPV.
Good luck!
