About 500,000 to a million new cases of HPV are reportedly yearly, so it's a very common STD. Some people contract the virus, but never have an outbreak (their immune system controls the virus immediately), so there's probably more people with HPV than anyone realizes.

According to Planned Parenthood, you will need to stop sexual contact as soon as you believe you are having an outbreak. This means that the virus is spread during an active outbreak and you can potentially spread it if you have broken out but don't realize it. Technically, you could have sex without a condom in a long-term relationship.

It's important that you notify any new sexual partners that you have HPV so they can decide if they want to take the risk or not. People with all sorts of STDs do find love and end up in long-term relationships, so having a STD does not mean you will definitely have a lonely, loveless life.

    Good luck!
