HPV/Genital Warts and relationships question?

April 18, 2009 by admin

My fiancee was diagnosed with Genital Warts and I have made an appt to be checked also.
However, the doctor told him this and it made no sense to me and upset him:
He told my fiancee that if i was clean (slim chance) then we would be fine
However, if i was diagnosed also that we could NEVER have sex again, even after the treatments are over and the virus is "dormat" (i understand it can still be passed though)
BUT if he has it, and i do to then he could dump me and go sleep with whoever he wanted that isn't affected (wouldn't he pass it to them this way?)

If truly 50% of sexually active people, I'm sure someone has been in this situation before.
I'm interested in knowing, since we're engaged, if we could ever be intimate again?

Any advice would be helpful, thank you all!

**please don't criticize us, he didn't cheat, and don't lecture me**
*If truly 50% of sexually active people are diagnosed with this std

typo! =)

Of course you can!!! I get so mad because doctors don't seem to describe this right. Get the book "What your Doctor didn't Tell You About HPV and Abnormal Pap Smears".

You see HPV doesn't always cause warts, some strands can lead to cervical cancer and these are the ones you should be most concerned with. However, not everyone shows symptoms. I've known many people who had a partner who was diagnosed with HPV yet they never got a wart or abnormal pap smear. It just depends on your immune system. Of course you guys can have sex and if you're engaged, what's the problem??? At least you know you won't get any NEW strands, right??? Maybe you misunderstood the doctor cause that makes absolutely no sense at all!!! Also, even though the virus itself isn't curable, after a while your body will just keep it in check and it will become dormant unless you have a weakened immune system due to HIV or pregnancy or chemotherapy or something like that. The only thing that seems bothersome is the stigma attached to STDs. However, there are much worse things you can catch that aren't sexually transmitted!!! Anyway, get that book and research HPV and you will find that there is no reason to worry. It's really not a big deal and most people who are sexually active do have it. After all, it's the oldest virus known to man!!! Cavemen had it!!!

EDIT: To the person above me: she said HPV NOT Herpes!!!! WTF???

Also, to the person above her: condoms DO NOT protect against HPV and it isn't TREATABLE anyway!!! My God!!! Where do people get their information???
