HPV/Genital Warts?

April 17, 2009 by admin

I am 17 and I just found out that I have HPV. I've been doing some research, but I want more. I don't have any warts, will they come later? Can I spread HPV when I don't have warts? What kind of treatment do I use? What are the chances of me getting cancer? Will this stay with me for the rest of my life? If I get warts, what do I do?

    Doctor answer here.

I was just writing a little article on just this so if this is more detail than you want, forgive me.
sooo…. about 80% of girls will have hpv before they turn 25. most of these cases will clear on there own in about 1 year without any treatment. Most people are unaware that they have HPV unless they develop warts and so they do not know that they are spreading it. Men especially. They are considered to be the ones that pass the virus from person to person. There are over 100 strains of HPV. there are the kinds that end up as warts and the more worrisome kinds that if they don't clear may become cervical cancer or other forms of cancer like vaginal, anal…moutth… etc.

For you, if you don't have warts already. you likely won't get them.
I am sure you are pretty healthy otherwise and this infection will clear. I do not think you will get cervical cancer if you get yearly pap smears. as soon as they detect abnormal cells they can be removed.

The best advice i could give you is to invest in the HPV vaccine. it is perfect for a girl you age. you are lucky to have this available to you. it was just recently approved by the FDA.
It will vaccinate you against 2 of the strains of HPV that cause genital warts and 2 of the strains that are most associated with cervical cancer. Get it and tell your friends about it.
Hopefully it will be approved for guys soon so we girls don't have to worry about getting if from them.

also…. it won't keep you from getting other forms of HPV or herpes. please please use a condom. even if it is not as fun.
Herpes is sooo much less fun. and you have it forever.
You can get herpes even if the person you are sleeping with doesn't know he has it.
    make condoms your best friend.

don't worry about the HPV. tons of people have it.
i'm one of them. just be safe about all those other things.
    take care.
    hope this helps.
