question about hpv/genital warts.?

April 15, 2009 by admin

I was diagnosed a month ago with Genital Warts caused by HPV. I have only been active with one person for 3.5 years and now it has just appeared. My partner has had past partners but no symptoms like I experienced. I know that some guys can be carriers. Lately, he said he is experiencing itching and may have a breakout. We are both lost..I mean, it took me this long to get it? Can you get it from anything else apart from genital to genital contact? We are very safe, condoms every time..I know that's not enough though. Before he met me, he had not been with anyone for prob. 2-3 years. This is what confuses me the most. I've messed with guys in the past, but it was more foreplay, NO genital to genital contact. I definitely got it from him though, right? Please turn the light on in this situation. Thank you.

It can take a LONG time for warts to show up. I have had HPV for over 6 years and I didn't develop genital warts from it till about a year ago. It took me 5 years to get genital warts from my HPV!

Your boyfriend has probably had the virus this whole time and never realized it. Since HPV and many other STDs don't cause any signs or symptoms most people are unaware they have a STD.

And, HPV is almost ALWAYS spread by some sort of sexual contact. Sex (vaginal, oral and anal) and DIRECT skin to skin contact with an infected area can cause a person to contract the virus. A baby can also be born with it, but this is REALLY rare.
