When I get married, should I tell him I have HPV?

May 6, 2009 by admin

I was sexually assaulted and given HPV (Genital Warts.) It has caused me to be deeply depressed and sometimes I want to kill myself.

I want to get married one day. But I don’t want to tell my future husband. It is so embarrassing and full of shame.

Also, why should I have to tell my future husband when the guy that attacked me never even asked if it was ok to have sex with me let alone inform me that he had HPV?
Worse yet, I went to Planned Parenthood and they acted like I probably got the HPV before the assault.

I had one boyfriend that I had sex with at age 18. We were both virgins.
Before the attack, I had not had sex in 4 years. But the nurse still said "Well you probably got it when you were 18 and it just lied dormant for all those years."

It made me so angry. Also, if I did have sex with my future husband, couldn't I use the same tactic that the nurse used and say "Well you had sex before me so you probably got it 10 years ago and it has just lied dormant."

You can never prove who gave you an STD anyways.

I am so depressed and I am suicidal. He ruined my chances at ever finding a husband.

If you love this guy you would not want him to suffer with herpes (HSPV2). This is an incurable STD and he deserves to know. Don’t be selfish. Additionally, men know when they have herpes, women don’t because they have the symptoms. Don’t blame him for what the attacker did to you.
