women only please…how can i get over anxiety of going to the GYN? afraid of what I might find out.?

May 8, 2009 by admin

The main reason I am anxious about going to the gynecologist is the fact that it has been about 4 yrs (I'm 24) since my last visit and I have had 2 more partners since then who had been with other women before me.

Also, about a year ago I noticed some small skin colored bumps down there that did not hurt AT ALL and never turned red or blistered. I did some research online and I came up with HPV (Genital Warts). Since then, all of the bumps have disappeared.

I am getting married to the greatest guy this coming summer and I want us to be healthy going into our marriage. I know there are a million reasons why I should be running to the gyn. first thing tomorrow, but I am SO nervous about finding out that I have an STD or even worse… cancer. I know I probably don't, but I guess what I need is some encouragement. I don't need anyone to put me down for not going already. I KNOW it's time… I just need other people who know how I feel to give me some encouragement.
Thanks.
My fiance knows about all of this… well, except the part about me asking complete strangers for their opinions… :)
THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN SO POSITIVE AND ENCOURAGING. I AM PLANNING ON MAKING AN APPOINTMENT VERY SOON!!

You just need to tell yourself that it's for the well-being of you and your partner to go to the gynecologist. You will feel much better and put your mind to rest once you get actual results.

Believe me, I have been in your position before. I had an iffy partner and all of a sudden, everything that was happening down there became an STD to me. I had a flesh-colored bump down there that I was positive was a genital wart and the doctor said it was just a skin tag (harmless). There was another time that sex hurt badly and I thought I had endometriosis; I even got ultrasounds done. There was nothing. The hurt went away in a few weeks.

Don't over-exert yourself by looking up your symptoms on the Internet. Nothing beats a good check-up by a trusted gynecologist. Just tell him/her your concerns and be honest, don't hide anything because you feel embarrassed or fear the outcome.

Remember: this is for the well-being of you AND your partner, both physically and mentally. Imagine the relief you'll feel coming out of that office. No matter what the results are, at least you know for sure.

    I hope I helped!
