Is it possible to contract hpv, genital warts, by bathing together?

April 20, 2009 by admin

I was diasgnosed with HPV almost 2 years ago. I have a three year old daughter who stll baths with me. While assisting her after using the potty, I noticed a small growth on her buttcrack that looks just like the warts that I had when I was diagnosed. There is only one, and I recently discovered that the virus is 100% shedding, so I am afraid that I have given the virus to my daughter. She goes to the dr in 2 weeks for her well baby check up and I plan to ask her doctor about it, but I wanted some opinions as to what it could be.
I did NOT know that it was a shedding virus. I thought it was only contracted through intercourse.
Please, logical answers. Its embarrassing enough without having someone insult and question my mothering skills. I'm an 18 year old single mother who is only seeking opinions to ease my mind until my daughter goes to her doctor.

I have HPV and have had genital warts as well and my understanding is that it doesn't live outside the body but for like a few seconds. So it's unlikely that it would leave your body, swim through the water to your daughter and infect her.
