Regarding HPV, Genital Warts, and Aldara 5% Cream…?

I was diagnosed with Genital Warts roughly 8 weeks ago(after I had my first outbreak), and was prescribed Aldara 5% cream 12 pack to be applied 3 times a week.
Ive been getting mixed stories… but someone with knowledge please help me:
Is this 12 pack of Aldara 5% supposed to last me 12 weeks or 4 weeks? THe doctor told me to only use a very little amount of the cream and use it for 12 weeks, but I have been hearing otherwise. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me.
THe cream has not been helping at all, 7 weeks and no noticable effect.
Please, some great feedback from a medical person would be great. I have been so stressed because of this lately.

You have to settle down first and foremost it takes time to work,
OK you have to apply the ointment 3 times week (alternate nights) say at least for a period of 12 weeks..
Keep surrounding areas away from ointment using just a small amount on warts.
Wash cream off after 6-10 hours
Then repeat so forth…
